5 Benefits of Agile PI Planning Remotely

Enterprise organizations who have adopted the highly-effective Agile PI Planning strategy, have recently been forced to do their planning sessions remotely.

Undoubtedly, this has come with growing pains — especially because Agile PI Planning was born under the premise of face-to-face contact. However, there are some key advantages to shifting to remote planning.

Here are five key benefits of holding remote Agile PI Planning sessions.

Lower costs

One of the most critical factors in the planning phases of your Agile PI Planning is facility readiness. This includes sourcing a facility that will occupy everyone from the organization comfortably, with additional rooms for workgroups. Finding these facilities often takes time and may consist of a hefty rental fee. On top of that, there are usually food and beverage costs to add to the intensive two-day planning.

By holding planning sessions remotely, or at least partially remote, all of these costs are forfeited. This can save an organization thousands of dollars per session.

No commute

Your employees (and you) will enjoy the luxury of not having a commute.

Most planning sessions are held outside of the office, meaning that all employees — whether they are locally-based or coming from another part of the world — will have to commute.

By holding your session remotely, the commute for distributed teams goes from jumping on a plane to walking to their computer in their home office.

Increased productivity

Studies prove that employees that work remotely are more productive than those who work in office settings. Not only do they work more days per month, but their active time logged is more efficient because they are more willing to break when needed.

With Agile PI Planning, the days are long and follow a strict schedule. By allowing your employees to have a little bit more flexibility through remote work, this may amplify their productivity levels and improve their ability to produce better concepts for the company.

Increased use of technology

Because of physical-isolation rules in place around the world, companies are now being forced to implement and adapt to new technologies at a rapid pace. Organizations that have been slow to adapt to new technologies in the past are taking this opportunity to implement software, protocols, and processes that will improve the sustainability and flexibility of the company so that it can withstand unforeseen circumstances moving forward.

For many, this means implementing technology (like Stormboard!) that can be easily accessed from anywhere in the world. With Agile PI Planning, this means digital program boards and presentation tools that will give you an electronic record of everything that takes place over your two-day agenda and integrates with tools that you already use.

Better engagement

When comparing remote meetings to in-person meetings, remote meetings make it easier to engage all of your attendees.

Remote meeting software allows the underdogs and introverts to become involved in the conversation and give their input. For example, when holding an Agile PI Planning session in Stormboard, all team members can be contributing and working at the same time, in their own voice, using the content that makes the most sense for them.
