UX Enhancements – Year-end Stormboard Product Updates

Stormboard is built to empower data-driven companies to turn their unstructured human interactions into information-rich collaborative workspaces; enabling data-driven decisions and efficient processes while often eliminating the need for meetings entirely.

So it only makes sense that the team here at Stormboard takes the mission of innovation and efficiency to heart. 2022 has been an outstanding year for product advancements and improvements designed with our customers in mind.

Earlier this year, we introduced “New Stormboard” — a revolutionary new system architecture and rending engine that enables our in-house team to take their most ambitious plans and ideas and make them a reality.

We quickly followed that launch up with two new features that quickly became user and customer favorites: Idea Grouping and Pure Images.

Because Stormboard is the only true data-centric collaborative whiteboard on the market, the next step for us was to enable our users even more flexibility and integration with diverse data streams. That mission drove the creation of a brand-new type of data-focused object: the Embed sticky note.

We wanted to keep the momentum rolling to close out the year, so today we are thrilled to announce a User Experience improvement that will save time, eliminate steps, and just make your in-Storm experience better all-around.

In-line Section Text Editing

In short, in-line editing is a new, easier approach to customizing and configuring section text within your Storms.

This update makes it extremely easy for Storm Administrators to quickly change the Title, Subtitle, and Digit of any section within a Storm – all without needing to go through the steps of opening a dialog box, setting up your section, and applying the change.

The addition of in-line editing means we’ve removed the ‘General’ tab in the ‘Customize this Section’ dialog, since section text edits can now be done entirely from the Storm level. This streamlines the editing process, making template sections much more dynamic, evolving in real-time, and eliminating time-consuming and tedious Storm configuration.

The best part of this update? It’s available for all users – from Free personal accounts all the way through our most powerful, full-featured Enterprise plans

In-line section text editing is live across all Stormboard accounts as of today – sign in right now and see how this update will dramatically improve the way you work.

Change Section Colors with Ease

To complement the addition of in-line section text editing, we’ve also made changing section colors more visible and accessible to users.

You no longer have to open the ‘Customize Section’ dialog to edit section colors, just click the ‘Customize this Section’ icon and color is now the first option in the list. You can toggle between white and full color section backgrounds by using the dropdown at the top of the submenu (see image below).

Customizing section colors is available to users on our Business and Enterprise plans.

Pure Whiteboards

That’s not all we have for updates though – last week, we did a soft launch of a new whiteboard function we’re calling “Pure Whiteboards.”

Built on the same concept as Pure Images released earlier this year, the idea behind Pure Whiteboards is to remove borders and make your free-hand collaboration experience feel more seamless and connected to the rest of your workspace.

This new capability allows the easy conversion of a standard Stormboard whiteboard into a borderless object at the main Storm level. By doing so, users on any Stormboard plan have another option for displaying and interacting with content in their workspaces.

The goal of this user experience update is to provide additional layers of flexibility, and promoting a more intuitive functionality. By eliminating the borders of a traditional whiteboard sticky note, users can now visually reference any whiteboard at a glance — and at a larger size — without straining to understand the content or being required to “open” or “enter” the whiteboard sticky.

This update is part of a long roadmap of user experience updates coming soon to Stormboard, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next.

Stormboard in 2023 and Beyond

Customer and user feedback throughout this year helped guide us toward some huge improvements in performance, user experience, configurability, and functionality.

We’ve already got some big plans for our next launch in January 2023 to start the year off with an innovative splash, and we can’t wait to show you.

The Stormboard product roadmap is loaded with new features, functions, templates, and performance updates designed to help you organization grow, innovate, and improve. Even with all of our big plans, we couldn’t do any of it without you – our users.

After a great 2022 and an exciting 2023 ahead, we want to keep the conversation going! No matter how big or small, keep the suggestions and feedback rolling so we can continue to provide the features and experience that you and your teams want to see.

We hope you love these improvements as much as we do, and we can’t wait to show you what’s next in the new year!
