Save the Cat Beat Board

Save the Cat Beat Board Template

About the Save the Cat Beat Board Template

Since Blake Snyder first published Save the Cat in 2005, his book can be found dog-eared on the desks of writers around the world. His famed 3-act beat board has been recreated on whiteboards, bulletin boards, windows, and just about anywhere else writers can find room.

Whether or not you agree that your theme needs to be stated at the 5% mark, you probably know the value of mapping out your entire story arch in a visual way. That’s why this template is yours to play with! We start with Snyder’s trademark beats, but you’re free to move whatever you like around and create your own beats.

Add a scene. Delete that scene. Bring it back again after lunch because you’ve changed your mind. If you do delete a scene, you don’t have to fish a crumpled sticky note out of the garbage or try to remember what you erased from the whiteboard. No ideas are lost.

The creative process is not a straight line. It’s more often a chaotic mess, which is why we’ve built a template to capture all the chaos and sort the mess.

We also think you’ll love how sharable this board is! Your editors and collaborators can see it all and interact with your board in real-time.

Best of all, when you're done, you can do so much more than just take a blurry picture of your wall or whiteboard. Your board will be there for you, just as you left it, whenever or wherever inspiration strikes again.
